EMR Incentives
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)
The ARRA allows Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (www.cms.hhs.gov) to offer incentives to medical practices that adopt and use electronic medical records technology. Incentives will be available beginning in 2011 for implementations completed and meaningful use established during 2010. All non-hospital physicians who see Medicare patients and are meaningful users of an approved EHR by year 2011 are eligible to receive a stimulus payment of up to $44,000 per physician.
Tax Deduction Benefits for using an Electronic Medical Record
Your practice may write off up to $250,000 of EMR expenses during the first year of using your EMR, regards if you use a ”Software as a Service"(SaaS) option such as WebDMEMR's. The Economic Stimulus Plan allows for an extra 50% bonus tax deduction in 2009.
